Thanks for visiting the update site. I will be posting updates as we progress in the rebuilding process.

For those of you who do not know what happend, here is a brief summary.

On January 6, 2009 we had a fire at Incendio Gastown. The damage to the restaurant was not too extensive, however the kitchen was almost completely destroyed due to smoke and water damage. Thankfully nobody was injured in the fire, all the tenants upstairs were evacuated safely.

In short, the fire was caused by a small seperation between the flue and the chimney, mostly likely caused by the settling of the building over the last 30 years that the oven has existed. The seperation was inside the wall where it went unnoticed for countless years. As the wood frame and joists were exposed to heat over a long period of time, it’s ignition temperature continues to lower until one day it ignites.

We are working diligently towards reopening as quickly as possible. The landlord is extremely cooperative and we are all working towards the same goal.
